Hey guys...

Sorry no progress pics currently, things are dragging me away from getting on with this. I have a free day tomorrow so I shall set about stripping everything and then get some pics of it bare.

So.. keep tuned!

It is a nice project. Love the highly modified Reno air racers. The Yak makes a good subject. Something like this could take a long time.

Oh yee of little faith

Actually I do have somewhat of a time-limit on it, I am writing an article about this process for a RC magazine and they wont hang around forever.

Anyway I am taking photos of the Yak in a few mins to post here.. so update today! I promise!

Cheers

Well guys! I promised updates... AND THERE ARE!

Although not many

I managed to get the airframe completely stripped (apart from pilots and the ailerons) yesterday and here are some photos of how it looks. I am getting really excited about this It certainly has that mean Yak 11 look to it.. with the nicely shaped leading edges to the wings.. and the HUGE fuselage. I have to say that with this thing bare I can see that it is beautifully built. I am telling you now I couldn't build this to the same standard. And I have been building for a long time!

Here is a list of things to do..

Remove pilots
Remove ailerons
Sheet over front cockpit seamlessly with the rest of the fuse..
Tidy up wing joining area, make the merge with the wing smoother.
merge the cowl into the fuse. build up the fuse behind the cowling and sand it back to the same level as the cowl get a smooooth seamless join. Hopefully when finished you shouldn't be able to tell they are separate pieces.
modify retractable undercarriage housing to take more scale/large wheels and working oleo legs.
Beef up the wing mounting points both front and rear... mainly just for my piece of mind.
Build new racing canopy and bulsa rear canopy spine, merge this into the base of the fin.
Calculate lateral stability when fitted with a large racing spinner and possibly extend rudder rearwards to compensate.

That is all I can think of at the moment.

Enjoy the pickies!

Cheers!
