Reno Racing Yak 11 Conversion RC

Hey all.

Anybody from Mil-Meshes will know me as Exec... Although I havn't posted there in ages. Anyway I am starting this thread to keep you updated on a project of mine. I am turning a normal Graupner RC Yak-11 into a crazy Reno racer version.. Here is a pic of the model as it looks out of the box.

I have attached a pic of the model as it will look when I am done with it. Notice it only shows the airframe mods.. not what the colour scheme will be like.

Cheers
Ben

Very cool Ben ! I actually like the colour scheme with that conversion. Makes it look like some cool alternate history fifties fighter (if they hadn't invented the jet engine).

Hey guys!

I have been flying RC for more then 10 years so I think its in safe hands .

I know what you mean about that colour scheme Wiek. But I do have my heart set on a bare-metal finish using self adhesive aluminium. With a bit of work you can get results like this :

http://www.scaleaero.com/scaleventsn...her%20007r.jpg

Just to update you guys on whats happening. I recieved the model yesterday. First impressions are that this thing is HUGE! for its wingspan the fuse is mahoosive.. I have had it roughly put together sitting in my living room and it is quite spectaculeraly big and I don't even have its large racing spinner for it yet! I have tried removing some of the iron-on covering from the side of the fuse and it comes off very easily and leaves a smooth wood surface underneith which is exactly what I want. First thing on the list to do is to rip all the covering off everything.. and then asses what mods I need to make..

When I get the airframe bare. I will post pics!

Cheers

That finish really looks superb....how about a compromise? Camo. on some bits, bare aluminium on others...?

Hey guys...

Sorry no progress pics currently, things are dragging me away from getting on with this. I have a free day tomorrow so I shall set about stripping everything and then get some pics of it bare.

So.. keep tuned!
